Start — Set up your Trezor securely

This guide leads you through the recommended, secure steps to set up your Trezor device with the Trezor Suite app. Follow each step carefully to verify your device, install firmware, create a secure PIN, and back up your recovery seed so your crypto stays protected.

What you’ll need to begin

1) Your Trezor hardware device (Model One, Model T, Safe). 2) A computer with a modern browser or the Trezor Suite desktop app. 3) A USB cable (or USB-C adapter) to connect your device. 4) A private, offline space to write down your recovery seed.

These items ensure you can safely initialize your device, install official firmware, and create an immutable backup of your recovery seed. Never share your recovery seed with anyone.

Secure setup — recommended steps

Step 1 — Verify packaging & device integrity

Before connecting, inspect the outer packaging and the device for tamper evidence. If you suspect tampering, stop and contact support.

Step 2 — Get Trezor Suite

Download the official Trezor Suite desktop app or open the verified web app. Use only the official download links to avoid phishing copies. Trezor Suite is the primary official client for firmware installation, device management, and transaction signing.

Step 3 — Connect and authenticate device

Connect the device via USB and allow the Suite to detect it. Follow on-screen prompts to authenticate your device and, if required, install the official firmware. Do not install firmware from unverified sources.

Step 4 — Create a PIN

Set a strong PIN directly on your device. The PIN protects local access; keep it private and avoid obvious numeric sequences.

Step 5 — Record your recovery seed

Write down the recovery seed exactly as displayed by your Trezor. Store the written copy in a secure offline location. This seed is the only reliable way to recover funds if the device is lost or destroyed.

Step 6 — Verify and finish

Trezor Suite will guide you through a verification step that confirms the seed and PIN. Once complete, your wallet is ready for secure use: send, receive, and manage assets with the device signing every transaction.
